ICE-hundreds of arrests in poultry plant raids
Early on 16 April U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency coordinating raids carried out in poultry in possession of processing plants The Pilgrim’s Pride companies in Texas, Florida, Tennessee, Arkansas and WV. In total, 311 workers were arrested, according to ICE April 17, in a press release. At least 91 workers were criminal violations, including using a false social security number and act of crime and were turned over custody of U.S. Marshals Service. Other workers are treated arrested for the withdrawal over the management of cooperation immigration injuries. Of the total number of workers imprisoned, 58 were under surveillance for humanitarian reasons, like child care or medical issues. (ICE press release, 17 April)
Some workers were arrested in plants, others have been included in their houses. (CBS / AP, April 17) All the workers arrested in the operation appear in Latin America. In a leaflet on the raids, ICE 130, said workers were arrested from Mexico, 112 from Guatemala, Honduras from 59, four from El Salvador and Colombia, nationality five other was “unknown”. Since then, five have pleaded guilty to abuse, social insurance numbers and await sentencing. The complaint involves human resources personnel of the company, according to documents the Federal Court.
